NYU Tournament
« Thread started on: Feb 6th, 2006, 1:30pm »
My name is Stephen Gertz and I'm a student at Grove City College in PA. I was wondering if I could get any information on how to participate in the NYU tournament this weekend (weight classes, etc.) If anyone can get me some contact information that would be greatly appreciated.

Well, NYU was cancelled, but there are still Yale and Columbia coming up. As far as weight classes go INCTL competition has 3 (this is all outlined in the rules section of the website). For men they are Light (<141) Middle (141-167) and Heavy (>167). For women they are Light (~<120) Middle (~120-140) and Heavy (~>140) I'm not exactly sure on the female cut offs. There are also 3 rank divisions C team (green belt and below) B team (blue belt and red belt) and A team (Black belt). Any competitor can "fight up" one weight class or one rank class.
In competition each team enters in teams of 3 (a light, middle, and heavy) for each division. The winning team is determined by best 2/3 matches.
In black belt competition now there is also an individual division. This is not point bearing towards you team score though. Weight classes are the same as the team competitions.
Poomse competition is pretty standard, but it is not broken up by weight classes or Dan rank.
